Home Ground looking to be Spring Champion

The excitement of the Sydney Spring Carnival has well and truly kicked in. The build up to the richest race on turf The Everest and also the inaugural running of the Kosciuszko for the country trained horses gains more momentum this weekend when the racing action at Royal Randwick gets the crowd ready for the following weekend. Racing enthusiasts will be treated to a 9 race card meet, with the feature of the day being race 7 the Moet & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes for the three year olds.

With plenty for the crowd to enjoy off the track, the racing action is sure to excite everyone more. The Sargent team will be looking to the main race on the day as our promising 3 year old stayer in the making HOME GROUND (High Chaparral x First Look) will jump from barrier 8 with Jay Ford aboard looking to add to his career and prize money earnings. Home Ground has had 6 career starts for two wins and one minor placing, but also not to be forgotten was his gallant effort finishing 5th in the Group 1 JJ Atkins for the 2 year olds during the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

With the rain that has fallen and continues to come the track will be heavy and likely too heavy for the horse however, it will give John and the connections an indication of how ready the horse is for the remainder of his Spring campaign, one that has him targeted toward some of the major races during the Melbourne Carnival including the VRC Derby.

Good Luck to all associated with Home Ground in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes.
