Promising Sammy Comes to Town

The Thermometer is expected to reach 46 degrees in Western Sydney on Saturday, so decisions were made earlier in the week to transfer the scheduled at Warwick Farm to Randwick where conditions are expected to be more suitable for racing.

With the expected conditions to be hot, Randwick will host 9 races with the first race set to jump at 1.15pm. The team will be represented by two runners on the day with the first lining up in the 2 yr old TAB Venue Mode Handicap over the 1200m as race 1.

The very exciting and promising colt by Statue Of Liberty BRASH SAMMY will be looking to continue to stamp himself as a horse to add to your blackbooks. Stepping out in his first official barrier trial back in September, the young colt then showed his potential when winning his heat which included a fair number of his stable mates. In his second trial, he finished 3 lenghts 4th behind the eventual winner of the Inglis Nursery over the weekend just gone- Wild Ruler (cost $525,000).

John gave him another trial toward the end of November when again he showed his potential when winning the heat by just under 6 lengths. With connections and John excited by what they had just seen, a nomination was put in for Canberra later in the week for the colt to make his race debut.

3 days later and the colt was loaded onto the float bound for the nations capital lining up in the 1000m 2yr Handicap. Jumping from 3 and cleanly from the gates settled into 4th not long after the start. 600m out from the post and jockey Lee Magorrian edges the colt closer to the leaders as they swing for home. As they turn for home, the horse cops a severe check that slightly hampers his stride but showing the ability of a seasoned professional, he is able to get back into stride and continue down the outside with clear running to win by 2 1/2 lengths.

On the back of the impressive debut, he was sent for a short freshen up and returned to work in which he continues to impress the team with his attitude. On Saturday Magorrian will be back in the stable colours and the saddle taking the reins again looking to keep their record in tact and allow the colt to continue to show his ability. With two scratchings coming out of the race already, Brash Sammy will jump from barrier 11.

Good Luck to the connections associated with the horse who are very much excited about having a runner in the city on a Saturday.
