The weekend saw the team represented with two runners in town and two at Newcastle’s meeting.
Of the four runners we were able to come away with a win, on the back of two good performances running 2nd and 4th, flashy grey GUNALUVA was looking to break the maiden status as he stepped out in 4 at Newcastle.
Sent out as the favourite and with a slight delay to the start of the race, the young gelding stood patiently in the gates before jumping from an outside gate to come across to find himself on the pace and eventually being able to find a nice position on the back of the leader.
A journey of 2360m was a chance for the Reliable Man gelding to show his staying potential. With 900m left to run, jockey Keagan Latham begins to encourage the horse to pull back the margin from the leader and keeps him close enough to be able to grind through his gears up the straight.
With a furlong out the grey was able to find the front and fight off a last chance battle to take the race honours by less than a length.
He has come through the run well, John and connections will now look for his next assignment.
Congratulations to all connections associated with the horse.
