Land Ahoy Opens Account on Debut

Yesterday the stable float headed to Horse Capital of Australia, the picturesque town of Scone on the Hunter Valley in NSW. With just the one runner on board to represent the team, 2 year old Dundeel filly LAND AHOY to line up in Race 3 of the day with Jeff Penza in the saddle and the Go Bloodstock colours.

The filly was first seen at the trials back in February when she finished 4th behind Stellar Pauline before then heading out to the spelling paddock to have a break. Recently returning to the trials earlier in the month she showed that she was ready to make her race debut.

Sent out as the $2 favourite, Penza jumped her away cleanly from the gates and settled two pairs behind the leaders, one off the fence. With 600m left to run, Land Ahoy slowly begins to make her move on the outside of the field.

Down the straight she was able to grind through the gears and 200m out from the post was able to past the field to break the maiden status on debut.

Land Ahoy now heads out to the spelling paddock for 3 weeks to get over the run and to allow her to strengthen further. She will then come back in and be targeted toward the VRC Oaks in Melbourne over the Cup Carnival, however John states “if that target comes too soon, then we will save her and head to the ATC Oaks in Sydney over the Autumn”

Congratulations to Sir Owen Glenn on the win by the filly.
