Ellen Makes It Look Easy at Kensington

Mid-Week racing in Sydney was hosted on the Kensington track at Royal Randwick and it will be a day that will always be memorable for apprentice Ellen Hennessy.

Apprentice to Theresa Bateup located down at Kembla, Hennessy was having her first ride at Royal Randwick in Race 5 aboard our consistent 3yr old EASY CAMPESE in Race 5 the TAB Handicap over the staying trip of 1550m. Ellen’s first ride on the son of Sidestep was in March when legged aboard for the Wagga Guineas, in which they took out in strong style. Her second ride on the horse was last start at Warwick Farm at the end of last month when finishing 3rd behind the talent Travest.

Yesterday’s assignment saw Easy Campese jump cleanly from the gates and sit on the back of the leader (Too Much Caviar) and then when turning for home was able to peel off its back to get clear running. Once in the clear, Easy Campese was able to utilise the advantage of having a 3kg claimer when showing his turn of foot to fight off a come back by Tim Clark to give Ellen her first winner at Randwick at just her first ride at the track.

Easy Campese has come through the run well and John now focussed on finding the next assignment for the honest youngster. A possible tilt at the Group 3 Gunsynd Classic over the mile for 3 year olds before he then heads out for a well earned break.

Congratulations to the connections and of course to Ellen on a milestone achievement.
