As Autumn neared officially being over, on a very chilly Friday the stable sent down three runners to Goulburn looking to heat things up ahead of Winter.
First up in race 1 was the talented and very promising 2yr old Star Turn filly MY SNOW QUEEN. Having shown ability in her trials and then on debut when she ran 4th behind Billiondollarbaby at Warwick Farm in late April the excitement around this filly has grown as she has progressed through her preparation.
At her second career start, she went around at Hawkesbury over the 1300m. Coming with a late surge when she eventually gained clear running she was unable to pull back the margin from the winner and finished second by less than a length, showing the team that she was not far off a win.
Having come through the run well and had been pleasing in her work, John found what looked to be a suitable maiden race for her at Goulburn. Jumping well from the gates under good riding by Keagan Latham she was able to sit up on the speed but just behind the leader. Turning for home the filly pinned her ears back and with 350m left in the running was able to surge past the tiring leader and went on to break her maiden status by over 3 lengths.
My Snow Queen has come through the run well and John (along with connections) is now looking for her next assignment.
It wasn’t long before the team were back in the winners circle, our 3yr old All Too Hard filly TOOSTAR was looking to make amends on her previous run when she finished down the track at Kembla after she was able to shake maiden status in April at Canberra. Initially John was considering scratching as the barrier gods hadn’t been favourable however, went against his gut instinct and started the filly that has always shown a lot of ability and promise.
Starting from the wide gate, Toostar jumped nicely and found the front very early – it was all over from there! Putting on a strong performance under a great ride by James Innes Jnr (who also rode her in Canberra) she was able to strongly put them away when surging to victory by over 3 lengths.
Toostar has also come through the run nicely and a next assignment is being sought out for her.
Congratulations to connections associated with both runners.
