John Sargent heads to the Australian Oaks and Sydney Cup

What an unbelievable achievement by John and his team, its hard enough to get 1 runner in the Australian Oaks, a 3yo staying race let alone 4 and 1 in the Sydney Cup.

On Saturday the 8th April we will see 15% of John’s stable take up just over 26% of the track with Byron Belle, Mountain Guest, Jolted and So Dazzling. All with a very good chance to take home the win of the $1million dollar race.

John had these comments to say on the runners

” So Dazzling was bought in New Zealand to be aimed for The Oaks, she got injured going to The Victorian Oaks, but now she is fit and well, and ready to run a very good race with the world class jockey Joao Moreira riding her.”

“Jolted was given to me by Jonathan Munz to train, she is out of an Oaks winner, who’s mother is also an Oaks winner, and she was bred to get the trip, and I think she is a smokey in this field, having won her last start and Tommy Sherry knows her well”

“Byron Belle could have easy been 3rd in The Vinery, just getting her nose in the 5th but a good first up staying effort. She has trained on in the services of the very good world class rider Kerrin McEvoy”

” Mountain Guest was given to me to get to The Oaks, got a group 3 placing last start in the Adrian Knox, she led all the way , ending up coming second. She is by Tarzino, she should stay all day and will race on speed in this race with a very good rider in John Allen a long distance rider”

Meanwhile Gin Martini runs in the The Sydney Cup (3200m) that boasts a total prize pool of $2,000,000

” Great to get Gin Martini in The Sydney Cup, she is on third line of betting, she is in form, she is 100% fit for this race. She has won over 2 miles. Got a great light weight rising kid in Zac Lloyd on board. Although drawn wide, think she is right in this race , she can handle wet and firm tracks” comment by John Sargent
