John Chasing Oaks Victory with Two Fillies

The Australian Oaks and John Sargent were etched into the history books back in 2015 when his mare Gust Of Wind caused an upset in beating Winx (who we all know then went on to record 33 consecutive wins). This weekend he will be looking to add another Oaks trophy to the cabinet when he lines up two runners in the race.

The first of the runners to represent the stable is ASPECT RATIO (Declaration Of War x Poste Restante). The New Zealand bred filly was purchased from Book 2 at the Karaka 2018 sale from the Curraghmore stud draft and John has had a high opinion of her since then.

Breaking her maiden at start number 6 at Warwick Farm back in October last year under a good ride by Andrew Adkins, John and connections started to map out a plan to see the filly on her path to chasing an Oaks tilt. Two starts back she showed that she is still on track to the Oaks when she finished 4th behind Probabeel in the Phar Lap Stakes at Rosehill on heavy going.

On Saturday she will be ridden by Rachel King and will come out of barrier 13.

Aspect Ratio

The other runner hoping to give John another Oaks is the Dundeel filly STICK ‘EM UP. Breaking the maiden status at Canberra in October, connections also considered an Oaks assignment and this resulted in her being sent down to Melbourne to contest the VRC Oaks over the Melbourne Cup Carnival where she finished 8th.

Stick ‘Em Up

Stick ‘Em Up enjoyed a nice spell in Melbourne before returning to the stables and commenced her current preparation which includes targeting the Australian Oaks at Randwick. Stick ‘Em Up will be ridden by Jason Collett and will come out of barrier 8.

Both the fillies are bred to stay and the distance should be no issue however, they will need luck in the running to beat the top 3 in the race including the NZ filly Probabeel.

Both are fit and well with John hoping that they can both put themselves in the running and to run a nice race.

Good Luck to all connections associated with both of the fillies, hopefully the stable can cause another upset.
