Mayrose Scores Saturday Grade Win

The conditions for Saturday’s racing at Royal Randwick were less than ideal with visibility at times quite difficult and the rain unrelenting, however, to the credit of the Australian Turf Club and all involved the 10 race card meeting proceeded and didn’t disappoint those that braved the conditions.

It was a big day for the stable with John saddling up a total of 5 runners across the day. The first runner came in Race 2 the Midway Handicap over 1100m and it is the very promising filly MAYROSE. As the weather bucketed down, on the back of her last start performance where she recorded a dominant win at Canterbury earlier in the month with a fast finish over the top at nice odds.

Jumping cleanly from the gates the Pride Of Dubai filly was able to settle behind the leading bunch getting a nice ride by regular jockey Jason Collett. Turning for home, Mayrose had clear running and was able to handle the heavy conditions to be able to grind through her gears from the 300m out from the post to record her 3rd career win from just 6 starts with 2 minor placings also.

Being by Mallard and her racing colours resembling those of the duck breed, many had the superstitions that she would handle the conditions and she didn’t disappoint. The filly has come through the run well and will now head to the Provinical & Midway Qualifier at Newcastle on 17th March in the hopes to qualify for the final that will be run on the 9th of April at Royal Randwick worth $500,000.

Congratulations to the connections on back to back wins.
