Home Ground Earns Rest

With the Melbourne Cup Carnival officially launched earlier in the week and the first day of the carnival being Saturday 3rd November with the running of the Group 1 AAMI VRC Derby.

John saddled up the one runner in the big race HOME GROUND on the back of his dominant staying performance in the Listed Geelong Classic. The horse having come through the run was fit and well, John feeling that the 2500m would be no issue for the young 3 year old gelding. Jumping from barrier 16 (or commonly referred to as the visitors car park), Home Ground was settled into a midfield position by the one and only Hugh Bowman.

Turning for home and finding clear running, Home Ground was finding the line nicely running a very close 5th (at one point looking to run 3rd), only 3.4 lengths from the winner Extra Brut. John was very happy with the run of the horse who has since returned to the Randwick stables.

Home Ground has now earned himself a nice break and will head to the paddock on Wednesday, returning in the Autumn.

Congratulations to all connections and staff associated with the horse on such a good result.
