On Monday 15th October as we all begin to recover from the excitement that will unfold on Saturday at Randwick with the running of the inaugural Kosciuszko (for country trained gallopers) and the 2nd running of the controversial Everest, the track will host barrier trials to allow trainers to continue the tweaking of the preparations for their stable steeds possibly heading for Spring Racing glory in Melbourne.
Team Sargent will saddle up a large continent of runners that will head over to go around as they progress toward track returns (for those who have been at the trials previously) and for those on track to debut (first time triallers). Among the runners that will go around for the stable include THE MIST (Raise The Flag x The Cloud), DELIYA (Eurozone x Delisha), OFF THE GROUND (Raise The Flag x Pernote), NEVER DOUBTED YOU (Reliable Man x So So) to name a few.
The exciting thing is that in among the large group of triallers John will saddle up some exciting young 2 year olds that will be stepping out for the first time at the trials. Here is a little bio on the young horses that are coming through their preparation and making their first public debuts:
SHARP OBJECT (2yr Stratum gelding out of Sharp)- this is the half brother to G2 placed In The Vanguard who was trained by John. Passed in at the 2018 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, the young gelding has been retained by breeders Bylong Park (manager: Richard Johnstone) to race in partnership with John Sargent Racing.
EMERALDS (2yr Sebring filly out of Doulmera)- another young horse that went through the sales ring at the 2018 Inglis Easter Yearling sale. This is the first foal for the unraced dam that hails from a family that continually produces group winners in Europe. Also from the family that produced multiple G1 winner and Europe’s Horse of the Year in 2003 and now standing at stand the beautiful grey DALAKHANI. Another fun fact that all the dams and progeny in this family all have their names starting with the letter D. Owned and raced by Pinecliff Racing who also have smart filly an Everest contender SHOALS.
SHINING EAGLE (2yr Verrazano filly out of Dashing Eagle)- a graduate from the 2018 Inglis Classic Sale in February this filly also has some famous half siblings. She is the half sister to the Bjorn Baker trained EMBLEY who has won over $500k for connections. She is also related to Gary Portelli trained multiple group performer SINGLE BULLET. A family with black type and with long model like legs she is sure to go well on the track and under the care of John, could this be the next filly that gives the stable their Oaks glory in the future?
ZOUMAZE (2yr Zoustar filly out of Be Amazed)- coming into the stable from the Gold Coast Magic Millions sale and for a fraction of the cost that Zoustar progeny are selling for. This filly hails from a family also full of black type winners.
As we get closer to the Melbourne Carnival and seeing if Winx can continue to make history, our excitement remains at home base for the above triallers on Monday as they officially kick off their preparations for John and all associated connections.
